Looking for replacement A/C filter grille nuts. ARGH!

We just moved into our new house and we have central air conditioning with a filter grille in the hallway ceiling. It's just like our old house except it looks like the previous owners lost the two knurled thumb nuts that hold the grille in place and replaced them with a couple of regular nuts. It's annoying to have to break out a wrench every time I change the filter but for the life of me I can't find replacement nuts.

Anyone have any ideas where to find them or even how to figure out what thread size I'm looking for?

I'd check your local hardware store. Mine is not a big place have has tons of small hardware like that. Or go to Lowes or some other big hardware store. Thumbnuts are not that rare...

Take one of the nuts that's on their now in for comparison.

They're called "thumb screws" take the bolt you have to Homey Depot and check the drawers. There's usually a little 'what size is it' fixture hanging on the wall. Once you know the size and the length, you just pick the style you want from the drawers
