So, here's the plan:

I want to find myself a base (extract) recipe that I will brew enough that I'll pretty much always have it in stock.

From time to time, I'll change something on it to see how that affects the taste (hops, yeast, etc).

I'm thinking this will help me get more familiar with the different ingredients out there and help with recipe creation.

Any suggestions on a recipe that would be good for this?

Well, what's your favorite beer(s) to drink? That's the style you should make.

I love Moose Drool, and this has become my house beer as well as my experiment beer. I've done different hops, grains, yeast, turned it into an IBA, made it into a Mild Ale... there's so much you can do.

Just pick something and perfect it. Then once you've perfected it you can change it. Just a little change each time. Enough so you can taste the difference. Take copious notes.
