I built my MLT to have a bottom drain. Then took the top I cut out and made this

.

I cut pie shaped wedges and then covered it with a mesh material my SWMBO uses to make ``delicates'' wash bags.

You can get the material at most any fabric store. Just make sure the holes in the material are not too big or small. I found some with holes about 3/32" and it works perfectly.

SWMBO made it about an inch larger than the lid. She then sewed a draw string into the outer edge. So unless the string or fabric fails, it's not going anywhere.

I've done 10 batches using this false bottom, the largest used about 45lbs of grains. No problems so far.

Have you had to replace the fabric yet? Do you just toss it in the washing machine when you are done?

Haven't had to replace the fabric yet. To wash it I just hose it off like I would a stainless false bottom, making sure I get all the grain bits off.

This was posted by another HBT member. Used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. I did it the same way and it works fine. Lots of deburring though.
