Hello,

I built a mash tun (and an immersion chiller, works beautifully!) and used some rubber washers to have a good seal, but I'm wondering if they are actually safe for homebrewing. Will the high mash temperatures degrade them or could they give some off flavors to my beer?

Thanks!

They look to be silicone washers, ( slick or "dull" finish), and no, at mash temps, standard rubber, or neoprene will cause no problems.

If they are silicone, that's about the best you can do, as they'll withstand boil temps with no breakdown.

Silicone will be the "slick" finish.
