Well, I'm tired of following everyone else's recipes and just modifying them a little and calling it my beer. So, I figured for the first time in 3 years of brewing (2 doing all grain), I would formulate my own recipe. As you can see, I am starting really simple. So, let me know if this is missing anything, or has too much of something else. It's just a simple pale ale, so it's kind of hard to screw up. :rockin:

I added some rye malt in there, as I really like the crisp, almost slightly bitter flavor that the rye malt adds. I also think it will change the color from urine to a morning urine type color. I'm brewing this for a party/cookout shortly.

My next step is to brew something a little more complex, but I need to crawl before I can walk.

Looks great, but 1/2 lb of rye is not going to impact the taste all that much. You will know it is there but very slightly. If you like the rye taste and are looking for it go with a little more like 1.5 lbs and leave the rest as is. Otherwise if you just want the little hint of rye in the background it looks great and I say go for it.

Looks like a nice simple APA.

BrewerinBR is right, the rye will hardly be there. If yu are looking for a RYE PA then about 20% is good. If you are looking for a nice drinkable APA then where it is is fine.

Either way it should be a nice brew.

Enjoy.

Looks good. Id recommend bumping up the last hop addition to at least 1oz

Brewed this yesterday. Added a 500ml starter of WLP008 and fermentation took off in about 2 hours. GOING STRONG to at 66 degrees! I'm about 1.5" away from needing a blow off tube, something I've NEVER needed, except when doing hefe's... Hydrometer sample for the OG reading tasted pretty good!
