I just brewed my 2nd all grain. I did Death by Dunkel since my basement is about 57 degs. It was harder than I thought to mash 11.65 lbs in 4 gals of water. I preheated the tun then added 4 gals at 165 deg but the mash went down to 147. Since I was at the top of my 5 gal RM tun I couldn't add heated water so I mashed for 70 mins. Then I drained it and added 3 gals at 177 degs but my mash only went up to 160. I let it sit for 10 mins then drained again.
I got almost 6 gals and boiled for 60 mins ending with 4.8 gals at 1.06 OG.
Any thoughts on what will happen to this brew with such a low mash and not really a true sparge? Here is the recipe.
