I'm brewing an IPA tomorrow... my second recipe I've put together by myself. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone wants to throw at me.

Below is the recipe I'm going with:

Fermentables
Ingredient Amount % MCU When
Carapils 0.50 lb 5.4 % 0.1 Steeped
US Caramel 40L Malt 0.25 lb 2.7 % 2.0 Steeped
Extract - Light Liquid Malt Extract 8.50 lb 91.9 % 5.8 Start Of Boil

Hops
Variety Alpha Amount IBU Form When
US Magnum 16.0 % 1.25 oz 35.0 Loose Pellet Hops All Of Boil
US Amarillo 5.0 % 0.50 oz 2.7 Loose Pellet Hops 20 Min From End
US Centennial 8.5 % 0.50 oz 3.7 Loose Pellet Hops 15 Min From End
US Amarillo 5.0 % 0.50 oz 1.6 Loose Pellet Hops 10 Min From End
US Cascade 4.5 % 0.50 oz 0.8 Loose Pellet Hops 5 Min From End
US Amarillo 5.0 % 1.00 oz 0.0 Loose Pellet Hops At turn off
US Cascade 4.5 % 0.50 oz 0.0 Loose Pellet Hops Dry-Hopped
US Magnum 16.0 % 0.50 oz 0.0 Loose Pellet Hops Dry-Hopped
US Centennial 8.5 % 0.50 oz 0.0 Loose Pellet Hops Dry-Hopped

60 minute boil... steeping the grains at 150 for 15 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback

Looks pretty good. One suggestion i would make is to only add about half of your extract at the beginning of the boil and then the rest of it with 15 min left in the boil. That way you will get less caramelization of the extract (lighter color) and better hop utilization.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't done this yet, but I've heard it suggested before to others.

I think I may give it a try this time around.

So I brewed this up on Sunday and everything went really well - hit my original gravity exactly. It's been fermenting nicely for the past 4 days.

The color is a little lighter than I was shooting for - probably due to the late addition of half of the extract??? Any ideas there? If I end up liking this, I'll probably tweak the recipe a bit next time around and use Caramel 60L to up the color a bit.

I'll should be transferring this to the secondary in about a week or so (depending on the hydrometer). Then dry hopping for 7-10 days

Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know how it turns out.
