I have an extract brew that I planned to cold crash and bottle back in June.

Well, I cold crashed it... and it's been sitting @ ~45°F in my mini fridge ever since. I've hit the "paralyzed by uncertainty" point and am afraid to bottle it.

Is my yeast dead? Did it drop out?

Can I mix in a fresh packet before bottling and be OK? Does it have to be the same kind I fermented with?

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and the kit was the Brewers Best Red Ale kit.

You're fine. Your yeast isn't dead. Much of it dropped out and went dormant (which is why you cold crashed it, of course), but there's still plenty left in suspension for carbonation purposes.

Since you're racking off cold beer into the bottling bucket, it's a good idea to give it a very gentle stir with a sanitized spoon to evenly distribute the priming solution.
