Heyo fellow HBT'ers!,

Tired of burning your hands getting the last drop of sugary ambrosia from
your grain bag? I'm looking at you BIAB'ers; trying to squash, squeeze
and wring that hot ass bag of grain to maximize your efficiency before the
boil.

I feel your pain. My hands have also felt the sting, my mouth tasting the
sweet high 80's/low 90's percentages of my painful efforts as I nursed my
seared nerves. But fear not! I've come up with a solution, after staring at
and wondering what the hell I'm going to do with three keg tops/spears I
just liberated from my newly converted keggles.

As I plan on continuing to use a grain bag in my MLT keggle, I re-designed
the scrapped remains to become... the Efficiency Persuader™! Read on to
discover how *you too* can become one of the unburnt elite...

This is the way the spear and lid look as it is once cut off the keg. I
didn't like that the lid was curved upwards being attached to the spear the
way it is. A downward curve would be much more effective at coaxing
those grains to release our precious nectar. So I got to work...

Disassembled! I cleaned up the pieces with PBW and a scrubby made for
stainless, then used the cutting disc on my grinder and a file to reduce the
size of the spring retaining cage and create notches for the spring
retaining clip to rest in, essentially copying the original design and making
it 1/3 the size in the end.

In order for the spear to seat itself on the same ramped area that it sits in
normally but while reversed I had to flare out the end of the spear. Pull
out the rubber ball retainer, remove the ball and spring and cut off the
majority of the end, leaving enough to shape and flare out with a ball
peen hammer.

Spear reassembled! The next two pics shows how far the original cage sticks out, and the now modified spear cage with *new* Ultimate
Efficiency Downward Curved Lid™ position.

Impressive, I know. I then flared out the other end of the handle with the
latest Ultimate Efficiency Grip™ design. And finally, the finished product:

Rejoice, for you shall never again be one of the blistered masses
sacrificing your comfort in futile efficiency attempts made with your poor
hands.

I hope you enjoyed reading about the making of this hugely game
changing HB tool as much as I enjoyed making it. :mug:

Hah, no problem! To get the most out of your BIAB if you choose not to sparge, you have to squeeze or wring the bag full of grains. Typically, you transfer the bag to another container and let it drain and cool some while the wort in the pot get to boiling temp. Once it's boiling, you squeeze or wring the bag out then add all the wort collected from the bag runoff and squashing into the boiling pot. A lot of us just use our bare hands and it burns a bit. Lol

This is used to press on the bag instead of using your hands. That's it! I did it mostly for a laugh, but it's semi useful too. :)
