Hop spider too short

I have an 11 inch hop spider and it barely reaches the wort. Can I set it on the bottom of the kettle? It will be directly on the flame, I do not have any type of false bottom.

I will be using a plate chiller and my concern is the trub going there the plate chiller. I do not have option to whirlpool.

Does it hang on the side of the kettle? If so, you could perhaps fashion a hook for it out of a clothes hanger or similar.

You can set it on the bottom of the kettle; can you get a small rack or something to allow it to stand off the bottom of the kettle?
