I have a northern recipe for Surley's Bitter Brewer I'd like to tweak, here's my story : 2.5 gallons fermented ready to bottle today. I have half the supplies left for another batch.
Now, I was fortunate in that my brother brought me some home the otherday as I live 150mi from the twin cities. First taste of the real thing, Its a nice smooth hoppy taste, and then as im swollowing a really funky, green homebrew kindof taste. Ick was my first reaction. It's not horrible but, different to say the least. I'm not sure i've ever had an english type bitter beer, maybe they all taste this way??
So I'd like to tweak the recipe a bit to my own taste for the next time i brew. I'm thinking it's one of the grains that give it the aftertaste? heres the recipe
1lb Fawcet Optic Malt
1lb Pale ale malt
3/4lb Golden naked oats
1/3lb Eng. Medium crystal
1/20lb Roasted Barley
3lb Golden light DME
Glacier and warrior hops
Any ideas? Thanks
