Hey guys, I am planning on building a pick up tube for a SS false bottom out of parts from bargain fittings. I have an igloo 5 gallon "heavy duty" I picked up from Target.

Planning on using this SS piece from Adeventures in Home brewing: http://www.homebrewing.org/9-Stainless-Steel-Domed-False-Bottom_p_1011.html

The SS fitting kit is really pricey there and uses compression fittings. So, I'd rather use these SS fittings from brewershardware.com:

Long Bulkhead Kit
90 deg elbow

The bulkhead kit is essentially a 2.5" nipple with locknut and THIS couling which I think is about 1" long. Connecting the bulkhead and elbow, I will use a Nipple like THIS. My question is, how long of a nipple should I get? I am thinking I could probably send a note to the Bargain Fittings Inbox, just not sure if they will know how to answer this or not....

Any insight on this? Am I on the right path here?
