Heads up, sure way to explode a bottle

Was visiting a friend and somehow emptied a 22oz flip top.
I wanted to keep it wet inside for easier cleaning when I got home
so I filled it with cold water and closed the top.
First time it exploded I didn't think about it enuff.....
2nd time, I have this advice to offer:
Don't fill your empty flip top bottles all the way with cold water and
close the top. When it warms up, the water expands and without
some air space to absoarb the expansion, the bottle blows.

Haha, thanks... i've got 1L fliptops i got for christmas.. i'll be sure and not do that, as a matter of fact i think i'll refrain from closing them up when they arent full of beer

I think the problem is that the ceramic lid actually intrudes into what ever headspace is there. Hopefully it wasn't over carpet!!
