My father in law loves this beer so I want to make an international Amber lager that is at least close. I found the brewstock clone but I have no idea if it’ll turn out “right.” This is their recipe for a 5 gallon batch:

8 lbs 2 row
0.5 lbs Crystal 60
0.25 lbs Munich II
0.125 lbs chocolate

0.5 oz Perle at 60
0.5 oz Perle at 0

OG 1.046
FG 1.012
Abv 4.45%
IBU 18
SRM 11.6

I don't know about it being a clone but looks like a tasty beer. Perle is my go to bittering hop in lagers and I just used it as a flavor addition in my kolsch.

I might have to change my rotational "Anchor Steam" Cali common clone for an Abita Amber clone.

Hopefully someone on here has tried to clone it and can critique the recipe I posted cuz I would also like to make it a regular beer for me!

I’m going to try to make this beer this weekend. I will report back when it’s done. This is what I settled on:

8 lbs Rahr Standard 2-Row
8 oz Weyermann Barke Munich
8 oz Briess Caramel 60
2 oz Briess Chocolate

0.4 oz Perle (8.8% AA) at 60
0.6 oz Perle (8.8% AA) at 0

WLP833 with a 1 L Starter

OG 1.046
FG 1.011
ABV 4.6%
SRM 10.5
IBU 14

I used this to clone their Maibock...

So here’s an update on the Abita clone. It turned out clean and good but sort of bland. It may be too good of a commercial beer clone lol. The bock yeast did a good job. It is also now an award winning beer, it took bronze at commander Saaz last weekend. I’m going to enter it in a couple upcoming competitions as both an international Amber lager and commercial specialty. The feedback when entered as an international Amber was basically that it is clean good and easy drinking but nothing stands out about it so entering it as a commercial clone may make those traits more appropriate. It’s worth a brew if you want an easy drinking Amber summer beer and if you want to enhance it some I’d up the end hops a bit and maybe mix in some different caramel malts for flavor complexity.
