I decided to start up a new thread from the one I had in "General Beer Discussion" as this will be more on topic. For you new readers, here's a recap. Hurricane Irene (hereafter referred to as Wench) picked up and relocated a 90' Maple tree on top of my Brew Haus (hereafter referred to as Man Cave or Cave). Diameter approx 3 to 3 1/2 foot, a real nice one! Rebuilding plans are in the works and yes, a few up grades as well. From disaster comes opportunity right? The thread might drag on a little while, as I'm also heading overseas next week for a month.. By all means, as I post the progress, feel free to make comments and suggestions!
I hope to have the "Thirsty Camel Brewing" back up and running by November. :ban:

Now for some porn:

During the storm we heard a huge gust of wind followed by a crash and pop sound, a quick peek out the back door revealed this:

I have to admit, I didn't think one second about my beer stuff, only my Harley! It had wood and debris all over it, I wanted to remove it from the cave thinking it could collapse at any moment. Problem was the forks were locked and the keys were in my tool box locked up at the other end of the shed. Great, its stuck there over night (sleepless night) next morning:

Whew! she made it, I crawl in and worm my way to the front of the cave and really discovered how bad it was, pretty much everything was busted or was covered up. SHMBO was in a full panic, (shes high strung anyway) thinking the cave was gonna fall on top of me while I'm in there digging around for keys. Anyway, got the bike and a few odds and ends out safely.

It took utilities a week to cut tree off cave, 3 more days for tree removal, so what didn't get broke by the tree got soaking wet from the next storm ( I think it was Lee) where we got another 14"'s of rain.

Here's the crane lifting the tree off the building almost a full 14 days later;

As of today, she sits like this waiting to be torn down, while the new one is being built. I'll have it brought in and set in place.

Updates to follow. Cheers!

It's amazing that the structure held up so well against such a large tree. Good luck on the re-build and look forward to seeing updates.

Suggestion - Have that tree cut up into lumber and use it to repair the brauhaus. It would make a great conversation piece, and add a lot to the terroir of your brewery product.

Kudos to the Amish, they build one heck of a strong building!

Methinks you got lucky the top of that tree prevented the trunk from fully crushing that tiny shed. I think if it got the full weight, your Harley would be a goner.

Heres one of the root ball, it took off the motor on the boat and pushed it through the fence about a foot.

Just more of the inside after I move some stuff to get to bike.

36-42" diameter? The tree pictured is a decent size, but it certainly doesn't look THAT big...maybe at the very base an inch above the ground.

I'm by no means a guy who makes a living with a saw in the PNW, but I have my fair share of fun with a Sthil 066 wearing a 36" bar.

Good luck with the rebuild and glad to see the bike looks to be ok. Agreed with the above poster who said you got lucky. Green wood gets heavy in a hurry.

Maybe so, I have no idea, that's just what the crane guy said, I'm sure he was talking about the base though. All I can tell ya is its a big F'ing tree! Or, at least it 'was'.

Bike is off getting its repairs, that should take about 3 weeks, and new shed being built, that's about 6 weeks. If all goes according to plan, I should be back from "that sandy place" overseas in about a month. If I'm real lucky, moving back in near the end of oct.

Back from Afghanistan, at least for a couple of weeks before my next 30 days over there. Not much going on with the re-build right now, the fence is being torn down this weekend to make room to get the shed out and new one in. The bike just got back from repair shop and is in tip top shape. All my junk still in the back yard under tarps. New brew haus is being painted and should be ready for delivery within the next two weeks. I already have all the electrical, just waiting to get in there and start roughing in. Cheers!

Well, it seems like its been forever! The new BruHaus has arrived :ban: It showed up 2 days before I got home from Afghanistan, talk about perfect timing! Haven't really gotten much done yet, decided to upgrade the electrical from the last shed (10/2 20 amp) to (8/3 80 amp) and put in actual breakers not just a main disconnect like last time. Finished all that up last night, will start insulating tonight and hopefully start moving all my stuff back in before the rain comes on Friday. Here's just a few quick shots from the phone cam, will take some better ones this weekend. Cheers!
