i brewed last night and when i went to attach the wort chiller to the hose, i found it frozen solid. so when my boil finished, i just left the wort in the keggle in the garage (32F) overnight uncovered.

when i got up this morning the wort had chilled down to 37F. i had to warm it up in a hot water bath to pitch the yeast.

are there any clarifying benefits to chilling this low before pitching yeast?

is there any end to the list of things that can go wrong when brewing?:mug:

My concern would be the Wort sitting out all night uncovered. I would have put some sanitized foil or saran wrap on it.

To prevent that exact problem I have a 6 foot section of Hose I use when the garden hose is frozen

No, but most of them don't happen much

I do it all the time .. No-chill. (the Aussies do it all the time too)
I add a sanitized lid on the bucket and tape over the airlock hole or put a stopper in !

I've only done about 6 batches, but they turned out great
