Has anyone experience with growing hops in a floodplain?
We are considering a small scale hops farm as a complement to another business, however the land is on a (fertile) floodplain and I am very concerned about saturating the crowns. The floods are annual and easily forecasted as they are a result of snowmelt rather than rain. Land is currently used as pasture.
Any thoughts or advice? I assume hilling would be beneficial, but even then the plants will literally be under water for up to 2 days, typically in May or June.
My thanks in advance, and for all the great advice here. .
