My local brew club had a competition a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd throw a couple beers in the mix to get some feedback.

I turned in a DIPA and a Belgian Wit.

There were three judges and scores were averaged to get the final score to see how the beers would be placed in the top five.

I didn't make the top five (and didn't expect to) but I did better than I though I would.

The DIPA got an average score of 35.33 and the Wit got a 30.33.

The DIPA, unfortunately, was given to them about two days too early and still had a touch of sweetness to it because of the priming sugar.

Luckily it had carbed pretty well so the sweetness was attributed to the malt rather than to a lack of carbonation, so i think that may have saved us a little bit. But I was still pleasantly surprised with the scores on each one. The highest score on this one was from a BJCP certified judge and it was a 38, which made me pretty happy.

The Belgian Wit wasn't my favorite, so I was really surprised when it got a 30. The lowest score on that one was a 28, also from a BJCP judge.

All in all I was surprised. the judges all gave great feedback and it was a pleasure. I'll be entering more in the future, that's for certain.
