Hey All,

So my first brew is fermenting, now on day 4 and Im wondering, I hear people saying they've taken readings for SG to determine when the fermentation process has finished, is it ok to remove the lid from my 6-gal bucket to take a reading? And if necessary put it back on and let it continue fermenting? I kmow eventually I have to but is it dangerous if its done too soon?
The brew is a Mountmellick Hopped Malt extract kit, an amber ale.

when you do take a reading us a sanitized turkey baster or a wine thief to pull the sample. Do not put the sample back in the bucket.
