Feeding temp probe down blowoff tube?

I don't have a thermowell, but do you think it would be ok to simply feed my long STC 1000 temp probe down my blowoff tube and into the carboy? It seems like it would work well
 
fold up some paper towel and tape the probe to the side of the carboy. what you are suggesting is not a good idea, i dont think the stc1000 probe is water proof.


carboy -> probe -> folded paper towel -> tape.
 
Don't do that!
The plastic from the probe and cord will dissolve in alcohol. Beer may creep inside too.

Like said above, use on outside with some insulation, or inside in a thermowell.

I routinely use my stc-1000 probe in a water bath. That seems to work just fine.
