Hi Everyone

I'm looking for feedback on this Black IPA recipe. I have never brewed a dark beer and am not sure how this will taste. I'm definitely looking for a "smooth" malt profile with decent hop flavor. (Isn't everyone?) Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

On a side note: I am considering adding the Dehusked Carafa later in the mash. With such a small amount is this necessary?

Looks fine to me. I would have made a few different choices but they're small and reflect my own biases more than anything else (more Munich, less Carafa, maybe some Cascade at 30 minutes, Wyeast 1450 or 1332 yeast). Post your result.

I will thanks! I am basing the hop choices on a black ipa I really like called Next Adventure from Fort George. Their site doesn't list times or quantities- just ingredients. I'm not sure which yeast they use either. As a newer AG brewer (I have a half dozen batches under my belt) I have never used carafa. I keep reading about astringecy and tannins. Do you think I would be wise to decrease it? I did buy the dehusked carafa III. Thanks again!

Carafa 3 is relatively mild, and there are certainly recipes that use more black malt (see Scooby Brew's Darth Vader and Sherpa's Black Out Rye DIPA). As I said, reflects my own biases more than anything else.

I've never seen the utility of using liquid Chico yeast - US-05 is less expensive.
