Wow, I am shock by so few picking Aerosmith, my all time favorite band. One of the few rock bands able to gap decades and generations........

  • Smashing Pumpkins
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Metallica, the earlier stuff, the black album and before. some of the new stuff is ok, but it's not the same
  • Led Zepplin
  • U2
  • Tori Amos---not a band, very tallented
  • Ben Harper
  • UB40

i see a lot of my favorites so far. especially the recurring nominations. for my money, i'd add

bad religion
mississippi john hurt
krs one (not really a band but whatever)
bad brains

  • Floater
  • Tool
  • Metallica - old, pre black album
  • Anthrax - yes Anthrax
  • Iron Maiden (old, pre seventh son)

Another Dead Head here. Saw them 43 times in a mis-spent youth. Still pissed off at the Fat Man for ruining it for us. Recently saw Bobby and Rat Dog for the first time and it was great.

Other faves:

The Beatles.
Stones
Stevie Ray
Ray Charles
Dylan
Zepplin
Clapton
Sinatra (Don't go there. It's like trying a new and different beer.)
Rosemary Clooney (Same as Sinatra, just cause you haven't tried it doen't mean it's not really good.)
Ten Years After
The Byrds
Buffalo Springfield
Any combination of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young

And BM, I think you might want to add Christofer Cross and the Captain and Tenille to your list of BMC bands. Careers that died not a minute too soon.

PTN

Sitting her listening to Billy Joe Shaver man is that man good! Gotta be one of the best, along with KISS, Willie Nelson, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Beastie Boys, Hell i could go on for a while.

....and recently Neutral Milk Hotel and Earthless.

only ten...

1.) TOOL
2.) Metallica
3.) Pantera
4.) Primus
5.) Blind Guardian
6.) Dimmu Borgir
7.) Children of Bodom
8.) Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
9.) Green Carnation
10.) Pearl Jam

It's hard to name only ten. I left out Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix out of fairness to the bands from my generation. Honorable mention should also go to, Rush, G 'n' R, Slayer, Type O Negative, Venom, Queen, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

My list could really go on... I won't name them all though because, well you would probably stop reading less than half way through anyway. I would also like to acknowledge Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Eric Johnson; four of the most excellent guitar players ever. I also have a great appreciation for John Williams and Carlos Montoya two more of my favorite guitar players. I should also not forget Dimebag Darrell (Darrell Lance Abbott) of Pantera, one of my most influential guitar idols. Yeah, I know I got off on a tangent here. It's just I love favorite band threads, they really hit the spot with me. Plus I've been drinking some tasty Belgian brews. :tank:

I am really all over the place in my music, but to list out bands, here are some that have changed the way I look at music at some point in my life:

I have a large rock based music collection, so I'll divide my list into 3 categories...

Classic rock:
Aerosmith
Hendrix
Doors
Stones
Anything Clapton (Yardbirds/Cream/Blind Faith/Solo/etc)

Punk etc:
Bad Religion
Rancid
Social Distortion
Anything Henry Rollins

"Alternative" (I get the ****** chills just typing that word)
Everclear
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Spacehog

Bump....

Amazing what threads you find in the dregs of this forum. :D

My 5 cents:

Dissection
Dimmu Borgir
Amon Amarth
Sepultura (Max Cavalera era, not the new crap)
NOFX (because I can't listen to Black Metal and Death Metal all the time...)

:rockin:

How the hell did I miss this thread in February

Rory Gallagher
J. Geils( great live)
Zappa(I think he was great live;) I really don't remember the shows, all 3 of them)
Muddy Watters
The Stones
Zeppelin
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Yaz (I love her voice)

May change by next month
