Anyone ever buy something off etsy? Is it legit?

My wife used to buy and sell there with great frequency. It's only as good as the individual sellers, but it's at least as legit as, say, EBay.

Nothing specific, just a wee bit of natural skepticism about giving some random dude on the internet money

Used it many times, good experience each time, but as others said, each seller is different.

I've used it many times for purchases (one this month in fact), and my sister sells her home crafted jewelry on there.

Every seller I've dealt with on Etsy has been awesome and super responsive. Just keep an eye on where your seller is located. There are many international vendors on there, so shipping might take longer than you're used to.

It's legit in that you'll probably get an item in exchange for your currency. It's just that item may or may not be a handcrafted one of a kind artisan original. There are a lot, not all, but a lot, of folks buying bulk items cheaply from China, through aliexpress or alibaba, and then passing them off as original folk art or unique designs at outrageous markups.
