I use a RIMS tube during mashing.

During the boil, I disassemble, clean and sanitize the tube.

I am considering using the tube itself as a hopback between my pump and plate chiller during chilling. When reassembling after cleaning, I would fill the tube with a bag of hops and replace the element end with a blank triclover cap. If successful, I would buy or build a filter cage to replace the bag.

Any reason this wouldn't work?

I tried doing it once. My first issue was that couldn't really fit that many hops into the RIMS tube. My second issue was the screen that I was using at the ends of the tube were too fine and immeduately clogged up with the hop pellet dust that was not contained by my hop spider.

Using this set up as a SS Randel works perfectly.
