I recently dryhopped my ESB after it had sat in the secondary for a week. I put in 1 oz of hop pellets and let it sit for another week. The pellets expanded and floated on top. Just wondering if it might have worked better to rack onto the pellets to allow them to float through the whole 5 gallons. Anyone have experience with dry hopping with pellets and have some thoughts about it?

Thats normal. No matter what you do, they will float to the top, unless you put them into a grain bag with a weight tied to it.

The hop flavor will spread throughout the fermenter, if that what you are worried about.

you will be fine.
