I brewed a pale ale yesterday with columbus hops. I purchased the hops about 1 week ago and stored them in the freezer. When I cut open the package I found that half of the hops were powder and the pellets had the consistancy of damp chalk. They fell apart when handled. As time was not on my side I went ahead and brewed as per usual. I put the hops in a hop bag for the boil (60 min, 10 min and 0 min additions). The wort was full of particulate matter. I transfered to primary without straining.
1) Will my beer taste like crap?
2) Did I get bad hops from the LHBS?
Thanks,
Mike

They may have been a little older, but if they were vacuum sealed you should be fine. Pellet hops do tend to break apart easily and won't stay intact during the boil anyway.
