cylindrical MT question

I am planning on building a MT from my 5 gallon cylindrical cooler. My friend owns a hardware store and got me all the parts. He recommended boiling the parts before constructing and using. Does anyone know if this is really necessary?????

Not for me. Some think it is a good idea to pickle brass to remove trace amounts of lead. I would be curious to see if the amount in a batch no. 1 is even measurable. Wash it, all gets boiled down the road.

There is machining residue etc on the brass, it would not hurt to boil the parts, or wash them at least. I've done the pickle with some brass parts, it makes them very clean.
