Ok.. I just talked with my LHBS after purchasing a new Blichmann burner (Yeehaw!) and the owner of the shop told me to coat the burner with dish soap and let it dry.

He also said to coat the bottom of my stainless pots as well. He said something about keeping the SS "conditioned" and making it easier to clean.

Has anyone else heard of this or tried this or is my LHBS on crack?

Input please!

I've heard of it, never tried it. I don't care if my burner gets discolored, and I don't have the time to reapply/retreat after every wash (I assume the coating would come off with water).

Then again, people spend an inordinate amount of time polishing their kettles to a high shine. I don't get that either.

Maybe if I shelled out for a Blichmann I'd be more apt to avoid discoloring it.
