I know a lot of people use rectangular 48 qt coolers for MLTs, for 10 gallon batches. Is this size cooler good for 5 gallon batches as well, or will the grain bed be too shallow for effective filtering?

Thanks

Grain bed depth is insignificant if batch sparging. The shallow rectangular coolers are easier to stir the grain, and work well for batching IMO.

I thought the grain bed was to help keep pieces of grain from coming through the manifold. Wouldn't that be just as important in batch sparging as fly sparging?
