Hello
I harvested a few pounds of whole cone hops and was wondering if there is a conversion from pellet hops to whole cone hops

I did a bit of researching and found that one should use a 1 to 5 ratio
Meaning use 5oz of whole cone hops to 1oz of pellet hops

I was wondering what the group thinks

Thanks a bunch

Bob G.

That 1 to 5 ratio is for wet hops - not dried whole leaf!
The conventional wisdom is pellets are ~10% more efficient at IBU delivery vs whole cones.
So a recipe calling for an ounce of pellets would want 1.1 ounces of dried cones...

Cheers!

Just wanted to say that while 10% difference is the conventional wisdom, in my experience it's much more than that. I use whole whops whenever I can, just preference. Did an IPA last year using mostly whole hops and it came out awesome. Brewed it again earlier this year, same exact recipe in every way, except I could only get pellets. I aimed for the same calculated IBU's, and it was far more bitter.
