Cognac Brown Ale?

A couple years ago I made a brown ale (extract) and, after fermentation, I added some white oak chips that had soaked in a spiced rum. Let's just say the keg didn't last long! But I'm thinking of doing this with Cognac this time. Or maybe with a Pilsner? Thought / opinions?

Anything soaked in Cognac will be great, but not in a Pilsner.

A local barrel-house did a pils in Gin barrels. Delicate flavors played off pretty well. Cognac may do the same.

...gin isn't normally aged. In fact, IIRC it's illegal to label it with an indication of age.
