Well I walked into Sainsbury's this evening and saw that heineken was selling their beer in a 5ltr keg. I was wondering that if I baught this I could refill it with my own beer. What do you guys think?

are u gonna drink the heiny? if you have to drink it i dont think its worth using

I have no experience with the kegs but in prior questions about them it seemed they were not re-usable. HB99 certainly is the expert on this.

Awww, I really want a cheap keg even if it's only 5ltrs. My SWMBO is already edgy about how much money I've spent on my equipment and I think a conelius keg will be pushing it at the moment. I just want a cheap container to keep my beer pressurised in.

You could boil a lot of brats in it. It's in a keg so it shouldn't be skunked... Kinda hoppy for brats, but it could work...

I didn't understad a word of that. Lamens terms please... or at least a longer explenation of what you think I should do.

You're not from Wisconsin, are you....

Boil bratwurst in the beer. Then finish them off on the grill before returning them to the beer to keep warm.

Anything you don't eat right away, goes into the fridge, still soaking in beer. Anything you do eat right away is tasty as hell.

Go to this site to learn more about the Heinie kegs:

If you really want to use mini's then look for the tap on the bottom and the black rubber bung with the red plastic "knob" (or "key" for lack of a better term). These are called gravity kegs.

You prime them with 2 TBS Corn Sugar and let them sit for a couple of weeks to condition.

To use, you open the top bung (turn red key) SLOWLY, pull out the bottom tap and turn it to dispense. ;) If you do not open the bung then you will create a vacuum inside the keg and it will stop dispensing.

Those kegs i have seen here for about $19-20. I am sure you get a corny for that price (just gotta get the regulator co2 and other stuff too!)

I just got 2 of the Coor light version of these from a friend (empty). What advise can you give about these?

What kind of bungs are on the Coors kegs? Like the Heinie's or the gravity tap?

If they have the gravity bungs then just follow the instructions as above.

After you empty them pull out the red plastic piece with pliers. Lift up on the rubber bung and slowly pull it out also. Be careful not to tear the rubber. Replacement bungs can be purchased at a HB store if you do.

After you re-fill a keg wet the bung, soak in sanitizing fluid, the wetness will serve as a lubricant when inserting it.

Sorry.... I have had WAYYY too much to drink and when reading this the SWMBO accused me of looking at porn jokingly. I said no, just this thread... then she pointed out if I were to omit certain words it is just that...
