Calories in basic mead?

Curious of calories in mead that is made with 15 lbs honey for 5 gallons total batch. So how much calories would be in a cup? Or any measurement for that matter?

Look up the calories in a pound of honey (1382 per Google), multiply that by 15, then divide it by 5 for the # of gallons and further by the # of cups in a gallon (16).

I get 259 calories per cup.

But I did that pretty fast. Double check it. The logic should work at least.

Then again maybe some of those calories disappear somehow but I kind of doubt it, not enough to care about (i.e. into heat during fermentation) anyhow.

There’s more that goes into it than that. It’s a combination of alcohol and carbohydrates, not just starting sugars. There are a few online calculators to help. Here’s one.

It's significant. About half of the sugar is turned into CO2.
