First year growing hops. I planted with about a 50/50 mixture of compost and soil. I live in southeast PA where it ranges from 40s to 90s at the time of year. I water almost everyday that it doesn't rain.

I got one rhizome from a neighbor and that's about 4 feet tall now. The leaves start out fine, then after about 2 weeks they start to brown on the edges

The leaves at the bottom are toast

Any suggestions?

Looks a lot like frost burn to me. Cover them up at night when the temp drops below freezing.

Hops are like weeds. Being in PA, you probably have gotten quite a bit of rain lately, so you may actually want to slow down on the watering. You can actually water a plant too much. That being said, there isn't a whole heck of a lot that you can do to kill hops plants. Did you by any chance fertilize the hops? If so, you may have overfertilized slightly causing the leaves to burn. Regardless, the hop bines will keep on coming for the most part.

Thanks. I didn't use fertilizer. The weather has been quite ugly over the past few days when this problem really got bad. I'll take all your advice. Thanks again!!
