I have extra grain laying around and I am going to brew a simple CA Ale. The recipe is:

9 lbs 2-row
1 lbs Crystal 15L
1 oz Magnum (60 mins)
1 oz Cascade (10 mins)
1 oz Cascade (1 mins)
WL 001 yeast

Simple recipe. What would adding 1lbs of brown sugar to the boil do to the overall product? I want to start experimenting with additions and I figure a simple recipe would be the place to start. Thoughts?

It will boost the alcohol, thin the body, and add a slight molasses flavor depending on the grade of brown sugar. Doesn't seem like a natural combo for Cascade to me, but don't let that dissuade you from experimentation. You could also try a pound of white sugar instead if you wanted an idea of how it thins and dries out a beer. Good luck.
