I noticed that BarginFitting quick disconnects are "Chromed Brass". What exactly does that mean and is this why they are so much cheaper than SS quick disconnects? Why is SS better than brass?
"chromed brass" means its a brass fitting that has chrome plating on it.
there are plenty of reasons stainless is better; if you chip the chrome layer, you expose the brass underneath. brass will oxidize or corrode pretty readily (similar to copper); brass usually contains small amounts of lead that can leech out; when brass corrodes and the surface finish degrades, it can harbor bacteria or contaminants.
stainless steel has none of those problems. it is however more expensive.
