The first voile bag wore out - I learned some things about stitching, how big it should be, and I really wanted handles. Here is the second bag.
  • It is significantly larger than the kettle,
  • big handles for lifting
  • narrows to a point for draining,
  • Button-hole stitch on the webbing for strength
  • nifty diamond-tread pattern webbing from strapworks.com

Firstly, very, very nice bag you crafted....cheers to you!

That said, I don't understand the need for handles on the bag, but rather I prefer a longer bag with a drawstring. At the end of the mash. simply pull the drawstring to close the bag and not spill any grain, then simply grab onto the entire top of the bag as you would a gooses neck? Or preferably attach a pulley to the cinched bag or drawstring.

With handles, you are relying on the stitching on the handles, when cinched with a drawstring and grabbing the entire bag it just seems more secure? I have just never really understood a need for handles...again, very nice bag you made...cheers to you and may you brew much tasty beer with your new bag....thanks for posting!
