I'm just wondering. I've been keeping my starters in a closet and out of the light to this point, but now I've built a stir plate and I have no outlets in that closet. I can move my starter elsewhere in the house if I need to but I hear a lot of people talking about keeping their stirrers in the kitchen.

So will light harm the yeast? Should I make provisions to find a dark closet with an outlet?

The problem with light and beer is the hops getting skunked. No worries about the yeast being in the light that I'm aware of.

If it has hops in it is. BUT many people do add hops as a preservative to their starters. It doesn't really matter if it gets skunked if decant off all the "beer" of the starter and just pitch the slurry in.
