Howdy folks, figured I would throw out a greeting. I'm active Navy and currently up in Nothern Chicago. I will admit, I once had a Mr. Beer kit as well (I saw the entire thread dedicated to it!) but a buddy really got me started on homebrewing. Currently we do the 5-gallon plastic bucket setup for primary/secondary (although last batch I finally got a glass carboy in). Looking for info and tips from all you old brew salts out there!

I spent a nasty winter (62-63) in ET A school at Great Lakes. So glad Uncle sent me to Hawai`i next. Stayed here after discharge.
 
I still use plastic buckets quite a bit, especially when I split batches. Keeping them free from scratches is the biggest challenge, I think. But they don't shatter like glass does.
