I'm planning on bottling my first lager in just a couple of days and I was wondering if I need to add yeast. Brew day was a little over 8 weeks ago. I've heard that adding some yeast of the same strain won't do any harm, but I am curious, what harm could I do if I don't add any yeast?

You'll be fine without adding any. If your bottling something that's been hanging around for say 6 months or a year, even then it's not totally necessary, it will just take longer to carbonate. 8 weeks, though, no worries.
