Hi Folks,

I'm about the mix up a True Brew red ale kit. Comes with:

1 -- 3.3 lb can Muntons Hopped Light Malt Extract
1 -- 3.3 lb can Muntons Light Malt Extract
4 ounces Weyermann Melanoidin Malt
1 ounce Liberty Hop Pellets
1 pack Mutons yeast
5 ounces Dextrose for priming

I was thinking of adding 1 lb of dried malt extract to the boil. The package (which I bought separately) says "Muntons Light Dried Malt Extract Color 8 EBC/Lovibond 3.5". I would like to have a higher ABV and would plan to let it sit for 3-4 weeks in the FV.

I also have a 1 ounce pack of Cascade whole leaf hops, which I thought I might add half of near the end of the boil, and use the other half to dry hop later.

Does this make sense?

TIA,

Mark

No problem adding these to the boil, if that's what you want. If you are going for an Irish Red, then the hopping might take it out of style, its not a hop-forward style. But if you're not concerned about sticking to the style, then it should be an interesting experiment.

Thank you! Maybe I'll skip the hops. It was the DME I was most interested in.
