Add Campden tab after mash/pre-boil?

The answer is probably around somewhere, but I'm sparging and realized I forgot to add my 1/4 campden tablet. Normally I'd add it into my water. Would it be okay to add it into the collected wort, pre-boil? Thanks!



Update: Found the answer, and I believe the answer is no. It should only be used to treat water before grain. Thanks

Correct. Chlorine and chloramine in the mash will interact with the malt creating chlorophenols...

Some people (notably Gordon Strong) do add metabite post mash in order to prevent wort oxidation and excessive color development in the boil.
