im a newbie doing my first batch. its a kit. ive put it in the secondary fermentor and the recipe said not to top off the carboy. the air lock is extreamly quiet. is this proper.
 
Yes. Time to crack open a bottle (or box) and imagine better days. Ones where you'll be drinking your own stuff.
 
Typically there will only be activity in the airlock for a few day, after that it is quite. How long was it in the primary before you racked it to the secondary?
 
I just realized that you are making wine not beer, so I am not sure.
 
You might get more responses from experienced people if you title your questions with something a bit more descriptive than "?". If people don't know what your "?" is about, then they're not very likely to go to the trouble of coming in and reading it. Just a helpful hint.
 
Also, it would be great to know which kit it is you're using, fermentation temp, OG, etc.
The more info you give us the better we can answer your question. ;)
