MLT with new insulation... Maintained 152*F for 90 minutes

It's the Minibrew 15 Gallon MLT... I dressed it up like R2D2 with some closed cell insulation. Apparently, you don't really need it since the material that it's made from is very effective on it's own. From what I have heard, that is a problem some people have had with their conical's made by Minibrew. The conicals don't let enough of the heat generated by the fermentation out.

It was 32 lbs of grain at 1.25 qts/lb. I think I would have to mash at a lower ratio to get any more in...

It was a REAL BIATCH gettin all that grain in there... Next we are going to be welding up a single tier system...

It's worth it though. Any time we have a batch of that IPA conditioned and aged and ready to drink, it is gone in a week... We figured might as well start doing some beast batches of this stuff since it goes like hotcakes...

I'll have some conical porn coming too... We are fermenting in the new Blichmann:ban::rockin::ban:

You are my personal hero. Seriously.

Thanks for the notes on the MLT. I'll consider it when I step up my batch size.

actually, we used a spray bottle of water. Also, since we were boiling down so much volume, we kept about 1 gallon of wort from the sparge in a separate pot and added it as we boiled...

Sweet Baby Jesus! :D

Looks great to me. I'm thinking about doing the smae thing to a couple of my beers. They're going so fast that I need to do some big a$$ batches. :mug:

I have to calculate my efficiency for this system since it was the maiden voyage of the MLT... I know i finished over 75% since my SG was higher than my beersmith told me for the recipe set at 75%...

I'll let ya know!

Off Hand, it was 28 lbs of Pale 2 Row (US), 2 lbs Crystal 90, 2 Lbs Dextrine Malt, 1 lb rice hulls... We boiled down a little over 15 gallons...

The hop additions were something like:
3 oz amarillo @ 60
1 oz Centennial @ 60
2 oz centennial @ 30
1 oz cascade @ 30
1 oz centennial @ 15
1 oz cascade @ 15
1 oz centennial @ 10
1 oz cascade @ 10
1 oz centennial @ 5
1 oz cascade @ 5
1 oz centennial @ 1
1 oz cascade @ 1

Dry hopping with 3 oz cascade and 3 oz centennial 1 week
Then 2 oz amarillo for another week

We used Wyeast 1056
