For cider fermentation, are there any rational reasons why to buy a 12 gal Pyrex glass carboy instead of two (non Pyrex) 6 gal carboys?
Thanks,
Montgomery
Lord above - people make 12 gallon carboys?
(googles)
The answer you seek is: CIDER PARTY.
Pyrex Carboy 12 Gallon, 50L, P/N 1595
Use it as a secondary, make up six straw/stoppers, be good to mother earth by eliminating red solo cup usage
A single 12 gallon batch will probably be more consistent in ingredients than two 6 gallon batches, where you may have slightly more or less of an ingredient.
A 12 gallon batch will finish at one time, two 6 gallon batches may finish at different times.
Not sure of the cost of a 12 gallon carboy, but around here, 6 gallon carboys are $35 plus tax at my LHBS so $70 + for the 12 gallon equavilant.
Bottling from a 12 gallon carboy could be a *****, unless you have a 14 gallon bottling bucket.
