    Clearing Agent Question

Does anyone know if there is a limit on how long clearing agents can be allowed to work before getting them (along with the sediment) out of the product? I’ve been using Super Kleer with great success in my cider/meads. The longest I’ve allowed it to work is about 2 weeks. I can’t find any...

To Filter or Not To Filter

Question is as the title states but here is my problem statement: I brewed a Citra Pale Ale and Cider for a wedding. Both pretty straight forward, both came out tasting great. After cold crashing, I drew some samples Cider was clear, beer has was about 50% clear but I was fine with that. Fast...

    Lager clear time?

It seems to vary quite a bit in my limited experience but I'm curious what might be accounting for the variance? Some seem to clear in 2-3 weeks, others take much longer. Anybody chime in on what you think makes the most difference? Is it the yeast strain, the style of lager, water chemistry? Or...

    Beaverdale Shiraz won’t clear

I’m making a batch of Beaverdale Shiraz. I’ve followed the instructions to the letter, but 5 days after adding the finings there is no sign of the winę clearing. I’ve never had this issue before with previous kits. Do I keep waiting, as it honestly doesn’t look like it has started clearing, or...

YACCQ - Yet Another Cold Crashing Question - Using Salt on Ice

I've not seen it mentioned, but when making ice-cream most people add salt to the ice so the milk/cream is exposed to the right temps. Wouldn't adding salt to the ice bath make sense for cold crashing too?

    Milk Separator for clearing beer

Has anyone ever used a milk separator for helping to clean up the beer after fermentation? At our winery we just bought a "used" centrifuge/separator (Wesfallia) for centrifuging our wines and ciders. at $175,000 used it is a big investment. We had an older centrifuge that I used to run on...

    Cloudy secondary.

Hello everyone, This is my first time posting to The Forum. I have some questions about a cider I was making. My first attempt at cider actually. I got a cider brewing kit from Midwestern Brewing Company. I then received a 6.5 gallon carboy from a friend. I picked up some freshly pressed cider...

    Clearing Wine w/ Chitosan?

Hi, all! So, after waiting a month for my Gewurztraminer to clear, I decided to keel to impatience and add some chitosan to it to see if it would clear without adding the other component that it reacts with, bcuz I only had chitosan on hand. It's now been 3 days and it's cloudier than ever. What...
