EDIT: More detailed instructions start on page 3 http://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthre...?t=8850&page=3

After seeing some of the posts about making a stirplate to aid in starter production, I scoured my stash to see what I had and came up with this stirplate that uses a LM317 voltage regulator for varing the speed. I figured since I was going to be doing yeast starters now and I had about 95% of the stuff I'd throw one together..... works really well if I do say so myself.

Here are some pics.

schematic for LM317 hookup....

4 rare earth magnets epoxied to the fan hub.

A closeup of the LM317 assembly.

With a 2000 ml flask and stirbar

I have a 2 inch and a 1 3/8 inch stirbar. The 2 inch get thrown a lot. So I think I'll use the smaller one.... will let everyone know how it works in action next week!

Looks AWESOME!

Definitely a summer project for me. You guys are making it much easier for me to figure it out!

If you add a parts list to this--it is a definite FAQ article.

If there is any interest I can try to throw something together that has parts etc. But from the response here, it doesn't seem like there is much interest.

I can read it off your schematic but, a printable parts list to take to Radio Shack and directions would probably draw more interest.

I'm in, too. I can probably scratch up a lot of the parts at work.

Noob Question Alert!
Looks like a very cool phenomenon, but, what exactly does it do and what is it for?
