I had made a JOAM earlier this summer, substituted D47 for bread yeast, it is now sitting clear in the secondary. I just ordered some vanilla beans and I was wondering if anyone has tried adding vanilla to a JOAM, or if this would be at all recommended.

Nothing wrong with adding the vanilla but your going to have a super honey sweet mead. 3.5 lb of honey per gallon is so sweet. I know this because I have made the Joam your speaking of.

I only used 3lbs, didn't follow a specific recipe. unfortunately was not able to take an OG reading, will take a reading once I rack it.
Getting more specific, how much of the vanilla bean would I use for a gallon?
Looking for more input before I try this, especially from those who've tried it before.

Straight beans can impart quite a lot of flavor. Start with one and see how it goes. I prefer two for a gallon but some think that's too much
