I brewed 10 gallons of Imperial Stout seven days ago. The OG was 1.096. Due to a monster starter and some really hard working 1056 American Ale yeast it dropped to 1.020.
Here's my quandry I only have one primary to accommodate a 10 gallon batch, and I'm brewing 10 gallons of California common today.
Should I leave the stout in for a few more days and hope it drops a few more points, or rack it to secondary fermentation today?
I can split the 10 gallons of California Common between two vessels if need be, but would prefer to ferment in one vessel.
What do those of you with experience in brewing high gravity beers think?

With those gravities, you're already at about 79% attenuation. Wyeast claims the 1056 can get an average of 75-77%, so I'd say those little guys probably aren't going to do much more.

I say rack it, and congrats on a rockin' ferment!

Primaries: Centennial IPA
Conditioning: Duseldorf Altbier, '07 Barleywine
On-tap: Dunkelweizen
Also pouring: Weizen-bock, Solstice Ale '06

It's done, 79% is very good for that gravity and yeast.
Remember one unassailable statistic, as explained by the late, great George Carlin: "Just think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are even stupider!"
