Default Sierra Nevada Torpedo Clone

I was sure I had a thread on this, but couldn't find it, so here goes another one. I did a search came up w/a dozen or so but not sure i'd commented on/in any of them..

Anyway a few months ago I got a recipe for the clone. Can't remember if I got it here, or took a look at their web site and made my own. Either way here is what I did, it's a 1.75 gallon recipe:

Amt Name Type # %/IBU
4 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US
8.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L
0.40 oz Magnum [14.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min
0.20 oz Crystal [3.50 %] - Aroma Steep 5.0 min
0.20 oz Magnum [14.00 %] - Aroma Steep 5.0 min
1.0 pkg Safale American US-05
0.10 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Dry 3 Days
0.10 oz Crystal [3.50 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days
0.10 oz Magnum [14.00 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days
----------------------------------------------------
Est Original Gravity: 1.065--------Measured Original Gravity: 1.071 SG
Est Final Gravity: 1.017-----------Measured Final Gravity: 1.024 SG
Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 6.4 %---Actual Alcohol by Vol: 6.2 %
Bitterness: 60.0 IBUs-------------Est Color: 11.9 SRM
------------------------------------------------------------------
Broke out a bottle of the clone and one of the original and did a blind test w/2 other people and myself. The other guy has home brewed and he could tell by the clarity which was the clone and so could I. The third person, female could not. I we really did a "blind" test so we could not see the beer I don't think either of us could tell the difference. This is good beer gonna do this again. It's fermented 3 weeks. I forgot to dry hop for a full week, so it only got 3 days. It's been 3 weeks in the bottle at 70* and 3 days at 45*. I expect more clarity over the next few weeks. If it lasts that long that is. :0) Merry Christmas.

Final gravity was 1.024. That seems really high

I guess the truth is in the tasting. Without tasting it I would say you have way too much Crystal, and as thehopguy notes, 1.024 seems way too high. I would have thought it would have tasted very sweet.

Yes. I'm not sure how it could taste similar without the citra.

Yea was high, but it stopped. I started high also so ABV came out on target.

I'd send you a bottle if it was legal.
